Step 1: hoop tear away stabilizer and stitch placement stitch
Step 2: lay felt or vinyl over placement and stitch next outline
Step 3: stitch lettering
Step 4: remove hoop, place a second piece of felt or vinyl on the back of hoop to cover stitches (pretty side facing down). Use masking tape or basting spray to hold it until after stitching. NOTE: if using vinyl on the back, float a piece of tissue paper under the hoop before stitching last step so it will glide easily on your machine. Vinyl has a gripping texture and can cause stitching errors and/or thread knots underneath.
Step 5: stitch last step
Step 6: remove hoop and your work from hoop, trim 1/8 inch from the stitches around the design (careful not to cut too close to stitching)
Step 7: using Kam snaps, rivets or something similar, place your snaps along the upper "tongue" of the design so they will snap securely around a key ring
